Aus Squad to Sharjah : Apr 94
Australia has not chosen a wicket keeper for the one day tour of
Sharjah, insteed the slow combination of wonky kneed (and
groined) David Boon and captain/opener Mark Taylor will muddle
through. 13 players have been named for the tour, with 5 of the
current squad in South Africa not touring. Three, Craig McDermott, Allan Border & Ian Healy, made themselves unavailable for
personal reasons. Two, Merv Hughes and Matthew Hayden, were
dropped. The three players added to bring the squad up to thirteen are left handed Western Australian Justin Langer (1198 runs
@ 70.47 in first class cricket this season), Michael Bevan another left hander from New South Wales (1199@74.94 (not including
the Shield final)) and right arm Victorian swing bowler Damien
Fleming (37 wickets at 24.41). Mark Taylor has as expected been
named Captain with Steve Waugh acting as vice captain.
