Australia confirm participation at Singer World Series
The Australian Cricket Board has confirmed its participation at
the four-nation Singer World Series Cup cricket tournament
scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka in August/September.
A top official of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board said that Australia
will not go ahead with the two-Test series here in July/August
this year, but will definitely come to Colombo. Mark Taylor`s men
who lost the World Cup final, will play along with India, Zimbabwe and the hosts Sri Lanka in the Singer tournament to be
played from August 28 to September 8.
Sri Lanka to play seven Tests next year
Sri Lanka will play seven Tests during next year, according to
Cricket Board sources. But the first assignment for 1997 is in
March where Sri Lanka will paly against a World XI or Australia
in Hong Kong.
The tour of West Indies will come next in April-May. There will
be two Tests and three one-day internationals. The dates will be
fixed latter. There will be a back to back five-Test series
between India and Sri Lanka. India will play two Tests here in
August-September. This will be followed by Sri Lanka`s tour of
India for three Tests.
Sri Lanka to play in a Quadrangular tournament in Pakistan
World champions Sri Lanka will tour Pakistan in October next year
for the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Pakistan Cricket Board
- BCCP.
This will be a Quadrangular tournament involving Pakistan, India,
Sri Lanka and South Africa and match will be limited over games.
Sri Lanka To Host Youth Asia Cup
Sri Lanka will host the Youth Asia Cup Under-19 limited over
cricket tournament in Colombo next year.
The tournament will be played after the Asia Cup tournament in
August. India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will play in
both Asia Cup - senior and junior, tournaments.
Asian Second XI Tournament In Colombo
The Sri Lanka Cricket Board has invited Australia and India `A`
teams for a triangular series here with Sri Lanka `A` in October
this year. This tourney has been confirmed.
The tournament will be played in Colombo, probably at the Premadasa Stadium under lights, after the Singer World Series.
