At Melbourne, January 23

At Melbourne, January 23. West Indies won by 86 runs. Chappell put West Indies in on yet another bad Melbourne pitch with an uneven bounce and complete lack of pace. West Indies won principally because of two outstanding innings, by Richards and Greenidge, who both gave a wonderful exhibition of how to bat in such conditions. Their footwork and improvisation were a joy to watch. The Australians, having made a bad start to their innings, were easily bowled out. The smallness of the crowd was a big disappointment.
