Bangladesh Biman became national cricket champions for the fourth time
by virtue of a 93-run first innings lead against Jessore in the
four-day final that ended yesterday at the Bangabandhu National
Stadium.
Earlier Biman were champions in 1977-78, 1980-81 and 87-88. The
national airlines team has finished runners-up on seven previous
occasions.
Resuming on 78 for three, Biman rattled up 356 for five in 91 overs in
their second innings.
The day belonged to Halim Shah as the middle-order batsman cracked a
superb unbeaten 141.
Shah, who went to the crease with the Premier Division champions in
trouble at 35 for three, figured in a 112-run fourth-wicket
partnership with wicketkeeper Atiar Rahman (51).
Shah struck ten fours and a six in his 204-ball innings. He was
adjudged man-of-the-match.
Atiar faced 131 balls for his half-century. It included seven hits
across the rope.
Shah also featured in an enterprising 106-run stand for the fifth
wicket with Sanwar Hossain, who contributed 29.
Jessore medium-pacer Ziauddin Babu captured four wickets.
