SURREY confirmed yesterday that Brendon Julian had signed a
one-year contract as their overseas player this summer.
Julian, 25, a left-arm fast-medium bowler from Western
Australia, has played seven Tests for Australia and replaces
Brian McMillan, who withdrew from his contract after
intervention by the South African authorities.
The hard pitch at the Oval should suit Julian, who is used to a
similar surface in Perth. Julian will be one of six
Australians to play in this summer`s championship. The one-year
term leaves Surrey the opportunity of bringing Waqar Younis, the
Pakistan fastbowler, back to the Oval next year.
Northamptonshire said yesterday that Curtly Ambrose would be
arriving in England on May 6 after the West Indies series against
New Zealand.
The fast bowler will miss the county`s opening championship
match against Durham.
