Former Australian Test opener, Chris Rogers, will use some of his time recovering from a knee injury in Hong Kong where he has offered to help Hong Kong National Coach, Charlie Burke, with the coaching of the Hong Kong National Teams - both men's and women's.
The 31 year old Rogers, who has worked with Burke over the years, will arrive in Hong Kong on Wednesday.
"This will be great opportunity for some of Hong Kong's young players, particularly the opening and top order batsmen, to gain some tips and insights from one of Australia's premier batsmen. Chris is the current batting coach with a premier side in Victoria and works with many of the batsmen in the Victorian team. His input can only benefit our players going into the World Cricket League Division 3 and also the ACC Women's tournament."
"What is lucky for us is not so lucky for Chris. His injury has prevented him from consideration for selection for the upcoming 3rd Ashes Test against England but no doubt he will spend his time here getting over his injury, getting fitter and of course working with some of our best players," Burke said.
Chris Rogers played one test for Australia against India in 2008 as a replacement for the injured Matthew Hayden. Whilst he has been considered unlucky not to have played more matches for Australia, Rogers has built up an impressive First Class record with teams including Western Australia and Victoria in Australia and Leicestershire and Derbyshire in England. He has signed to play for Middlesex in 2011.
Rogers' First Class statistics to date shows that he has played 174 first class games, scoring 14,835 runs with 45 centuries including a top score of 319. His current First Class batting average is 52.05.
Rogers also has the rare distinction of scoring a double century against his home country when he scored 56 and 219 whilst playing for Leicestershire against the touring Australians in 2005.
