The HKCA ran and coordinated its first Emerging Squads Program in late 2010-11 over an 8-week period to develop and foster some of Hong Kong's talented young cricketers. After a long review of the program, HKCA will again be offering a similar program in 2011-12 for talented cricketers (both boys and girls) aged between 11-17 years of age in the following categories:
- Under-13 boys;
- Under-15 boys;
- Under-17 boys;
- Girls Development Squad;
- Chinese boys;
- Chinese girls.
In total this will be 6 squads training under the guidance of HKCA's full and part time coaches.
Trial Dates
Trials for that squads will be held on the following dates:
- U13s will have two trials on 4th and 11th November;
- U13s will have two trials on 2nd and 9th November;
- Girls Development Squad (U18 preferably) trial will be held on 9th November;
- Chinese Development Squad trials will be held at KGV on 12th & 13th November.
- There will be no trials for the U17s as we feel we have good knowledge of these players through our continued efforts in development and junior pathways.
* Players MUST attend at least one session to be considered.
* Please ensure if the players did not participate in last years program that they MUST bring a photocopy of their ID card/Passport as well as contact details such as email and mobile number.
ALL clubs and schools are requested to communicate this with your players and email Tabarak (dar@hkcricket.org) with your list of u13s, u15s, Girls players that will attend the trials, please send this by Next Tuesday 2nd November.
*Players wishing to be considered for the Chinese Development Squad must send there name, contact details to Charlie Burke (charlie@hkcricket.org) and Yoyo Kwok (yoyo@hkcricket.org) by Thursday 10th November.
Program Dates
- This year the program will be in 4 phases;
- Phase 1 Oct/Nov Selection/Trials;
- Phase 2 Mid Nov - Mid Dec Skill specific sessions;
- Phase 3 Late Jan - Feb/March Continue skill sessions and education sessions such as nutrition, game sense, fitness and scoring/umpiring with matches to complete;
- Phase 4 April/May Specialist Skill Sessions for the Elite Players (players will be selected to attend another 4 sessions comprising of specialist skill groups).
Player Assessments
Last year the HKCA coaches spent a considerable amount of time on completing a coaches' report for each player. For the 2011-12 program, more time and more resources to will be spent to ensure clubs/schools have understanding of what the HKCA coaches are working on and, for the players, direction in the way of an individual assessment. This program will see each player receive the following:
- Video analysis in their preferred skill areas both at training and in game situations;
- Skill and Fitness testing report;
- Statistics data on performance;
- Detailed coaches report.
* Each player will receive the information on a memory device as well as the club/school he/she is committed to.
During the program, players receive:
- Expert coaching from some of Hong Kong's best coaches as well as specialist international coaches;
- Player Diary & Program Details;
- Training uniform (Shirt & Cap) color coded to that age group;
- Certificate of completion;
- Each age group will also have a group photo.
