Rohit Talwar, the former Madhya Pradesh allrounder, died of cancer in Kanpur on Saturday night. Talwar, 49, was the general manager (cricket operations) of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association.
Even though Talwar was born in Uttar Pradesh, he played first-class cricket for Madhya Pradesh between 1982 and 1990. In 26 first-class games he scored 1316 runs at an average of 32.09, with a high score of 199, and also took seven wickets with his left-arm spin.
After retirement, he moved back to Kanpur and contributed to Uttar Pradesh cricket as a junior coach and selector before joining UPCA.
As a mark of respect for Talwar, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh both observed a minute's silence before the start of their Ranji Trophy league game at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday. Players from both teams also wore black armbands.
