Steve Harmison and Marcus Trescothick are in the running for the PCA Player of the Year award after impressive seasons. Harmison earned an England recall to face South Africa, and also reversed his ODI retirement, while Trescothick has scored runs in all forms of cricket.
Ravi Bopara and Martin van Jaarsveld make up the four contenders for the main prize, while Bopara is also in line in the young player category having already been named the Cricket Writers' Club Young Player of the Year.
Going into the final round of Championship matches, Harmison has taken 58 first-class wickets at 23.08 and Trescothick has scored 1239 runs. Trescothick also made his mark in one-day cricket, scoring 183 against Gloucestershire in a Pro40 match at Taunton.
Bopara has had an outstanding summer for Essex with 1146 Championship runs and hit an unbeaten double century in the Friends Provident semi-final against Leicestershire. van Jaarsveld helped Kent to both one-day finals and has also made more than 1000 runs in the Championship.
The other players up for the young player award are England allrounder Stuart Broad, Kent opener Joe Denly, and Yorkshire seamer Tim Bresnan.
