The International Cricket Council played no role in the decision by
Kenyan authorities to lay criminal charges against former Kenyan Cricket
Association Chairman, Sharad Ghai, the head of cricket's international
governing body said today.
Responding to an inaccurate media report coming out of Africa, the Chief
Executive of the ICC, Mr Malcolm Speed, said that the decision by the
Kenyan authorities to charge Ghai on corruption charges was taken by the
Kenyan authorities alone and that the ICC played no part in this action.
"Decisions on criminal charges are clearly matters for the relevant
authorities in our member countries," said Mr Speed.
"The ICC respects the judicial process in each of our 92 member
countries and contrary to at least one media report it has not played
any role in the decision by the Kenyan authorities to lay criminal
charges against Mr Ghai. This is a matter entirely for the Kenyan legal
system."
