Indian police have arrested five bookmakers involved in an illegal betting racket involving the current Test between India and South Africa taking place at Kanpur, according to the South African-based Cape Argus newspaper.
The police reportedly seized a laptop, 14 mobile phone handsets, 30,000 Rupees (£360) and a 4x4 vehicle in a raid that took place on Monday. Electronic surveillance was used to track down the leader of the alleged racket, Rajveer Singh Rane.
South Africa and India are staying at the Landmark Hotel in Kanpur, which Hasnie Cronje's side used in 1996-97, and is supposedly where a bookmaker suspected of associations with Rane made an approach to Cronje.
