Inquest findings to not detract memory of Maynard
Matthew Maynard, father of Tom Maynard who died last year, speak for the first time about the findings at his son's inquest

Last week's inquest drew light on the recreational activities of Tom Maynard, who died on the railway line in South London last year, but Tom's father Matthew, the former Glamorgan captain, tells Steve James in the Telegraph that none of what has come to light will detract from everyone's memories of Tom.
Just as after Tom's death, so after the inquest the response received by the Maynard family has been overwhelming. "How people felt about him, in a way that we didn't initially understand or realise, has all come out afterwards," says Maynard. "All the letters we have had and the sentiments we have been receiving, whether it has been after the inquest, after the funeral or at the time of his passing, have been incredible. Not one person has said a bad word."
Heartening, too, has been the approval given to the Tom Maynard Trust, set up to help disadvantaged young sportspeople and which will now also work with the Professional Cricketers' Association to help in drug education and testing procedures.
