Jamaica Clubs: Lucas retain Senior Cup lead

A good allround performance from Gareth Breese steered Lucas to an emphatic innings and 18-run victory over Preston Road neighbours Kensington at Kensington Park yesterday, to widen their lead in the Rothman's Surrey Senior Cup with 34 points.

Scores: Kensington 131 and 71; Lucas 220 for four declared.

Resuming on their overnight 109 for two, Jamaica and West Indies A allrounder Christopher Gayle added 15 runs to his overnight tally before he was caught for 69 by Albert Miller, trying to hit offspinner Errol Wilson over the top.

After taking first innings points and with Delroy Morgan going for 44 when he was caught by Miller off pacer Ricardo McLean at 220, Lucas declared their first innings with Breese unbeaten on 62, which gave them an 89-run lead.

Breese then returned to capture six wickets for 33 runs from 19.2 overs and Christopher Gayle took two for 14 from 14 overs as Kensington, playing without top players Robert Haynes, Wavell Hinds, Kirk Powell and Bryan Murphy, put on a mediocre performance in their second innings as they were bundled out before tea in 44.2 overs with 33.4 overs remaining in the day's play.

At Elletson Road: Kingston defeated Police by an innings and 14 runs to move to 25 points.

Scores: Kingston 265 (Raymond Ferguson 97; Kenute Asquith 5-74, Wayne Nembhard 2-26, Leonard Coley 2-61); Police 33 (Dwight Mais six wickets for nine runs, Andrew Richardson 2-23) and 218 (Dixieth Palmer 74; Ryan Cunningham 4-61, Kerry Scott took three wickets).

At Chedwin Park: Jamaica Under-19 allrounder Tamar Lambert scored a century to pilot hosts St. Catherine C.C. to an emphatic innings and 19-run victory over St. Thomas to move up in the standings to 24 points.

Scores: St. Thomas 110 (Audley Sanson 3-35, Bevan Brown 3-50) and 145; St. Catherine C.C. 274 for three declared (Tamar Lambert 119, Renford Pinnoch Jnr., 74).

At Folly Oval: Despite a 122 run opening stand from Portland's opening batsmen Cecil Lewis and Crafton Clarke, Melbourne defeated their hosts by eight-wickets to move to 30 points.

Scores: Portland 95 and 214 (Crafton Clarke 74, Cecil Lewis 65; Shacurie Wilson 4-49, Derron Dixon 4-52, Carlton Baugh Jnr., 2-25); Melbourne 210 for two declared and 100 for two (Marlon Samuels 46 n.o., Robert Samuels 24, Aubrey Wollaston 19, Colin Fletcher 4 n.o.).
