Kumara Dharmasena has been finally cleared to represent Sri Lanka again after the recently elected Executive Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka decided they were satisfied with the remedial action that he has taken on his bowling action.
A brief BCCSL media release states: "The BCCSL is pleased to announce that Kumara Dharmasena will be eligible for future selections."
The 29 year old off spinner, who played 20 test matches for Sri Lanka, has not played international cricket since the 1998 tour to England, where he played in Sri Lanka's famous test match victory at the Oval. He was subsequently withdrawn from international cricket for bowling with a suspect action.
Dharmasena's gentle off cutters failed to attract the media interest of Shoaib Akhtar of Mutiah Muralitharan and he was forced to quietly languish in exile. Increasingly frustrated by a lack of support and urgency he had continued to play to domestic cricket for Bloomfield SC.
