MALCOLM Marshall, one of the finest fast bowlers of his
generation, has been approached by the West Indies in an effort
to halt the decline of the team.
Marshall, 38 next week, announced his retirement as a player
last month after a career spanning 19 years in which he took
378 Test wickets.
Now he has been approached by the West Indies Board of
Control`s president, Peter Short, to work alongside Clive
Lloyd, the successor to Andy Roberts as team manager.
Marshall, in his first full season coaching Hampshire, his
former county, said: "I have been asked if I`m interested in
taking the job and I said I was. There is a meeting of the West
Indies board in May and we will see what develops from that."
Marshall is on a three-year contract with Hampshire but
believes if he does accept the West Indies offer it will not cut
across his duties in England. It would, though, force him to
leave his other job coaching Natal in Durban.
