Marshall in the hunt

President of the Barbados Cricket Association, Tony Marshall, will contest the post of vice-president when the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) holds its annual general meeting in Antigua this weekend.

The job of second in command to Jamaican president Pat Rousseau was left vacant when Julian Hunte took up the post of St. Lucia's ambassador at the United Nations in New York.

Two other candidates are in the running. West Indies Cricket Board secretary Andrew Sealy confirmed that Marshall, Chetram Singh, president of the Guyana Cricket Board, and Antiguan Clarvis Joseph were in the race.

The meeting, which is the first annual general meeting since the WICB was incorporated last December, will be held at the Rex Halcyon Hotel.

Sealy said ground security would be a major topic following the crowd disturbances in Guyana and Barbados during the One-Day International series between West Indies and Australia.

The meeting is expected to centre around planning a "future focus" for West Indies cricket, specifically the next three-to-four years.

Other topics on the agenda are the president's report, the chief executive officer's report, reports from the marketing committee and the director of coaching, and the financial report.

There will also be the reports on the Cable & Wireless Test and One-Day series from the captain, manager and coach, and updates on preparation for the 2007 World Cup to be hosted by the West Indies, this year's World Cup, tours and regional competitions.
