The gulf between Lions Lod and the other Division 1 teams was highlighted yet again in Ashdod on Saturday, as Lions Lod demolished Young Ashdod by the massive margin of 196 runs. Ramle produced a classy bowling performance to defeat Tel Aviv by 60 runs on Friday at Hadar Yosef in the weekends other Division 1 fixture, whilst in Division 3, Eilat defeated Dimona A by 3 wickets, and Kiryat Gat beat Negev Academy by 6 wickets.
Isaac Massil top scored with a fine 90, Eshkol Solomon contributed 50 and Anim Solomon scored 38, as Lions Lod amassed 292 against Young Ashdod. Although their total was always going to be enough, like all winning sides they did not satisfy themselves with going through the motions, but rather were ruthless in the field as well. Massil once again showed his all round talents, following his batting exploits with an opening spell of 4 for 25 in 5 overs. Anim Solomon claimed 3 for 19 with his off breaks, as Young Ashdod capitulated to 96 all out.
Tel Aviv would have fancied their chances of a second straight win having bowled out Ramle for 163. However Ramle were aggressive and motivated in the field, and fine bowling by their pace attack left the Tel Aviv innings in tatters at 38 for 7. Eliezer Samson (4 for 21) and Philip Garleck (3 for 30) picked up the wickets for Ramle, but it was Isaac Talkar (1 for 19) who was most impressive, bowling with genuine pace. Steve Leigh mounted a rear guard action to bring some respectability to the Tel Aviv innings, before being last man out for 47 with the score on 103.
Negev Academy struggled against a good Kiryat Gat team in Be'er Sheva on Saturday, but despite going down by 6 wickets, Safania Nagavkar once again impressed with an innings of 67 in his teams total of 147. Noel Wasker took 3 for 28 for Kiryat Gat. The visitors were never in trouble chasing their target, with Avshalom Sankar (41) and Samson Pinle (30) amongst the runs.
Left arm spinner Solomon Varsulkar took 3 for 35 for Dimona A in Dimona on Saturday, but his efforts were not enough to avoid his team losing by 3 wickets to Eilat. Chasing a total of 181, Eilat reached their target in 29 overs.
