A splendid fourth-wicket partnership between skipper Aneal Rajah and
Imtiaz Ali enabled Moosai's to get past Queen's Park Cricket Club by
five wickets in the Mt d'or quarterfinal at Honeymoon Park yesterday.
Chasing 154 for victory and in some trouble at 43 for three, Moosai's
saw their skipper come to the crease to join Ali. Batting and running
intelligently, the pair reclaimed the initiative for the homesters
with a 78-run stand which set up the victory. Rajah struck four fours
and one six in his 40 while Ali managed a single four in his vital 44.
At Pierre Road, Alescon Comet crushed Kasha Feeds Grande United by
114 runs. Looking to overhaul the home team's 227 for victory, the
visitors got a good knock from Brian Affonzo (45) but were undermined
by Ken Hazel (5/19), Dinanath Ramnarine (3/11) and Suruj Ragoonath
(2/14), crashing to 114 all out off 21.3 overs.
In the other quarterfinal encounter, Caroni Wanderers completed an
easy win over Ramsingh's Couva Sports, getting home by 67 runs. In
reply to Wanderers' 207, the visitors managed just 140 before their
innings folded, with Avidesh Samaroo (3/9) and Latchman Laggan (2/13)
the destroyers.
Moosai's will now meet Alescon Comet and Wanderers Clarke Road in the
semifianls.
