New One-Day Uniforms Hit On And Off The Field
WELLINGTON -- New Zealand`s new one-day cricket uniform is a hit
with fashion experts and players.
Pacific blue has supplanted the beiges and greys common with past
New Zealand teams.
Wellington designer Chrissie Potter said: "They are positive
colours; winning colours. The men`s uniform has more oomph but
they should both stand out on a nice day.
"They`re quite good on the eyes. Their previous colours, especially the beige and brown, were so bleak and dirty looking. I
could never understand why they wore it."
Evening Post Flair fashion editor Josie Vidal said: "I like the
colour. It`s very Pacific. I`m not wild about the graphic but it
is very modern and designed for impact on television.
"I am especially pleased to see the women in trousers. Those
split skirts they (used to) wear are so demeaning to women," she
said.
The uniforms all have individual player names and numbers.
Trying the uniform yesterday, test opener Bryan Young said he
liked the colours.
"The Pacific blue is a colour easily associated with New Zealand
and the silver fern across the front is great," he said.
Women`s international Justine Fryer gave the thumbs up.
"It`s a nice lightweight material. It is different having the
trousers. But they will be a practicality, especially with the
World Cup in India this year." -- NZPA
