News from Canadian Cricket
Canadian Cricket Association
Congratulations to young Damian Persaud of the Edmonton & District CL of
the Alberta Cricket Association. He scored his second "ton" of the young
season this past weekend. Continued best wishes and happy hunting!
Damian was a co-winner of the Donald King Award for best young cricketer
with Damien Mills of Winnipeg, Manitoba Cricket Association. Damian is
probably going to Grenada, West Indies and Damien Mills will probably seek
to improve his game "down under".
Ian Khan, after his stint at the MCC school last year has "improved
immensely" and is keen and willing to share his knowledge with other
players. We are deeply grateful to ICC Development headed by Chairman,
Dr Ali Bacher of the South Africa Cricket Board for Ian's selection, tenure
and support.
Derek Perera, another young Canadian and captain of our U-23 team in our
last Senior National Tournament in Vancouver, continues his skills
development in England. His exploits with bat and ball have been
impressive. Ian and Derek are products of the CCA's junior programme. As
far back as 1994, they seemed destined for senior team inclusion. Best of
luck in 1999 and the future guys!
Joel
Martin Prashad, former Canadian ICC Trophy player and national team captain
has been hospitalized in Mississauga after major surgery - he continues to
recover slowly. E-mail messages can be sent to Martin via the CCA
website. We shall be happy to pass them on via his brother Paul Prashad,
also a Canadian National ICC Trophy veteran.
Get well wishes for Joel Martin Prashad also can be sent by mail via the CCA ICC
Trophy 2001 mail at:
# 45032- 81 Lakeshore Road East,
Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
The ICC Trophy 2001 Committee is actively seeking the names and interest
areas for volunteers. Please submit your interest and availability for
July 2001 to the ABOVE ADDRESS.
The CCA is a federally chartered non-profit corporation. ALL DONATIONS
WILL BE ELIGIBLE AND RECEIVE TAX EXEMPTION RECEIPTS! Please support the
development of Canadian Cricket. Kenya and Bangladesh have received ODI
status. Bangladesh has applied for Test status. Does Canadian Cricket
deserve anything less. Canada played in the 1979 with Sri Lankanow a
Test nation. We must do better and commit to re-qualifying for the 2003
World Cup in South Africa. We must qualify by winning the 2001 ICC Trophy
in Toronto. We need your physical, moral and financial support NOW!
Come on board.
