Ramprakash to be England batting coach
Mark Ramprakash is to be appointed as England batting coach after impressing during his time with the team in 2014. England have not had a full-time batting coach since Graham Gooch left the role at the start of the summer but Ramprakash will join the set-up ahead of the forthcoming Sri Lanka tour.
Ramprakash, who was also batting coach with Middlesex, had been sharing responsibilities with former Test team-mate Graham Thorpe, whose official title is ECB lead batting coach. It is understood that Thorpe was reluctant to take on touring duties to the extent required and he will continue to work with the Lions and Performance Programme squads.
One of the most dedicated and technically accomplished batsmen of his time, Ramprakash was the last - possibly the last ever - to score 100 first-class hundreds. However, his international career was largely unfulfilled, with just two hundreds in 52 Tests. His first job will be to prepare England's batsmen for a World Cup challenge that many have already written off.
