Hong Kong's newest cricket ground will come online when the redeveloped Po Kong Village Road Sports Centre opens its doors to the public on 1st September 2010.
The brand new, state-of-the-art facility, built on the site of the former Po Kong Village Road Cricket Ground, in the Wong Tai Sin District of Kowloon, has been built with cricket in mind with an astro-turf cricket wicket laid in the centre of the ground, between the two full-length football fields that can also be used for rugby. The boundaries for the ground are expected to exceed 60m on all sides. The main surface of the ground is made of a modern, soft rubber astro-turf (so no cricket spikes will be allowed), allowing players to comfortably drive and slide on the ground without risking skin grazes and other friction related injuries. The ground also features sight screens at each end of the ground and two cricket nets. The perimeter of the ground is also full fenced which, hopefully, will reduce the number of lost balls.
Other facilities at the ground include a covered grandstand with seating for approximately 2,000 spectators; full flood-liting for night sports (although not suitable for cricket); an electronic scoreboard; and modern changing room facilities with showers, toilets and rentable storage lockers. Public parking (charged by the hour) is also provided at the ground.
The ground, which is suitable for men's cricket, has been booked by the Hong Kong Cricket Association for Saturday League matches and on the first Sunday of each month for Sunday League and Sunday Cup matches.
It is hoped that the adjacent Po Kong Village Road Reservoir ground will be developed later in the year for women's and junior cricket.
