SCOTLAND`S team to compete in next March`s mini World Cup in
Malaysia will be better prepared than any of their
predecessors - according to Jim Love, the Scottish Cricket
Union`s Director of Cricket.
Love, the former Yorkshire and England player who has just
returned from a fact-finding mission to Kuala Lumpur, was
speaking at the launch of the 1996 Scottish Cricket Guide
at Clydesdale Cricket Club in Glasgow. He has advised that the
Scottish squad should arrive in Malaysia at least 10 days
before the start of the tournament in order to properly
acclimatise to the hot, humid conditions, and believes they
will be at the peak of form when they open their
campaign.
George Salmond, the Scotland captain, said yesterday that he
believed the forthcoming season - which embraces the
European Championship in Copenhagen in July, the defence of the
Triple Crown they have held for the last two years, preparation
for the mini World Cup and the introduction of the new Scottish
League - will be the most momentous in the history of the
game in Scotland.
The Scots begin their season with two one-day friendlies
against Durham at the new Chester-le-Street Racecourse ground on
April 22 and 23 before starting their Benson and Hedges campaign
against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge on Sunday April 28.
