Two left-armers are among three potential fast-medium bowlers selected by the Sri Lanka Cricket Board to undergo a three-month training at the MRF Pace Foundation in Madras to develop their skills under the guidance of former Australian Test fast bowler Dennis Lillee and India`s T.A. Sekhar.
The Navy`s Sajeeva Chanaka de Silva who also represented Sebastianites and Isipatana MV`s Nuwan Soysa are the two left-arm bowlers who will leave for India on June 25.
CCC and Hatton National Bank`s right-arm fast-medium bowler Wendell Labrooy will also leave along with them.
SSC and Hatton National Bank right-arm fast-medium bowler Pramodya Wickremasinghe will also go along with the trio, but will stay only for two weeks.
Cricket Board sources said that Wickremasinghe is being sent to tighten up his technique and correct whatever flaws he has in his bowling. The Sri Lankan spearhead has in recent times dropped in his performance and a stint with MRF is certain to brush up his faults.
These fast bowlers are sent to India on the support extended to the Sri Lanka Cricket Board by the MRF Pace Foundation.
The Cricket Board has nominated past Test players Ranjan Madugalle and Sidath Wettimuny for the International Cricket Council`s (ICC) match referees` panel.
The Board has also nominated the following persons to represent them at the Pilcom and Asian Cricket Council meetings which will be held in London during the ICC meeting.
Vice president Thilanga Sumathipala, secretary Tryphone Mirando and chief executive Dammika Ranatunga will attend the Pilcom meeting on July 4 and 6. President Upali Dharmadasa, Sumathipala and Ranatunga will attend the ACC meeting on July 7.
Meanwhile, the Cricket Board has decided that the R. Premadasa Stadium and the SSC will be used as the venues to play the seven one-day matches of the four-nation Singer World Series involving hosts Sri Lanka, Australia, India and Zimbabwe from August 24 - September 8.
The SSC will also hold the second Test between Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe from September 18-22. The venue for the first Test from September 11-15 has yet to be decided.
