South Africa v Sri Lanka

At Kimberley, December 4, 2002 (day/night)

15-Apr-2004
At Kimberley, December 4, 2002 (day/night). South Africa won by eight wickets. Toss: South Africa.
South Africa clinched the series with 19 overs in hand. Asked to bat, Sri Lanka had threatened a high score, racing to 57 without loss in ten overs, with Atapattu continuing his glorious form. But he failed to ground his bat when a speculative backhanded flick from Boucher broke the stumps, Jayasuriya fell to a wonderful airborne catch by McKenzie, and the innings subsided to 97 for five. Arnold marshalled some lower-order resistance, but not enough. South Africa's reply got off to a jittery start before Gibbs and Kallis stamped their authority in an unbroken stand of 172. Early on, Gibbs played awkwardly, but he finished with a stream of magnificent boundaries: his third six lifted him to his century and South Africa to an emphatic victory.
Man of the Match: H. H. Gibbs. Attendance: 4,488.
