CTC Trading to sponsor CCC

CTC Trading Limited will sponsor the Colombo Cricket Club during the 1996/1997 inter-club cricket season. The sponsorship package is worth Rs. 500,000 and will cover the Division one, two and three tournaments.

CTC Trading Limited have previously sponsored the Nuwara Eliya Golf tournament for three successive years. In selecting the Colombo Cricket Club for sponsorship. CTC Trading Limited have taken their first step towards developing sporting activities in Sri Lanka.

This was revealed by Colonel Sunil Peiris, Chief Executive Officer of CTC Trading Limited, during a press briefing held at the CH and FC Board Room Maitland Crescent on Monday.

He said that this is a unique event as they are sponsoring a cricket team for the first time. He added that it is a privilege for CTC Trading Limited in sponsoring the CCC team who in fact won the division one Coca Cola trophy last year.

Colonel Sunil Peiris also said that cricket, was a key sport in the country and hoped that CCC would put up a repeat performance in this year`s tournament too.

Dr. C. H. Rasiah, Chairman Colombo Cricket Club, speaking on this occasion said that they were pleased to be associated with the CTC Trading Limited. He also said that this sponsorship was a tremendous boost for the club who will be hoping to retain the Division one title for the second successive year.

The Colombo cricket Club has a recorded history of over 130 years and together with the Colombo Hockey and Football Club and the Queens Club joined many years ago to form the Gymkhana Club.

Also present on this occasion were Senaka Amaratunga Marketing Manager CTC Trading Limited, Chandra Amunugama, General Manager CTC Trading Limited, Niranjan Vithanage, cricket secretary Colombo cricket Club and S. R. Thurairetnam.
