Rienzie Wijetilleke expected to head interim body for cricket
The Managing Director of the Hatton National Bank Rienzie
Wijetilleke, has been ear-marked to head a five-member interim body
to conduct the affairs of the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri
Lanka (BCCSL) until the finalising of the case now before the
District Court of Colombo against incumbent president of the BCCSL,
Thilanga Sumathipala. The trial has been fixed for September 8.
The secretary to the Ministry of Samurdhi, Youth Affairs and Sports,
Dr. R. M. K. Ratnayake, told the Sunday Observer that apart from
Wijetilleke, the four others to be included in this interim body are
all former All-Ceylon cricketers.
'We are having discussions with about eight persons to be included in
the interim body of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, but I am unable to
disclose further names of the persons involved. However, we will be
making the appointments tomorrow (Monday)", said Dr. Ratnayake.
Dr. Ratnayake further said that there are about eight others in the
Sri Lanka Cricket Board who are not part and parcel of the case now
before the District Court of Colombo. He said that these persons will
be requested to assist the five-member interim body headed by Rienzie
Wijetilleke.
The District Court of Colombo issued an interim injunction on the
president of the BCCSL, Thilanga Sumathipala, and his Executive
Committee, on June 10 on holding office until the final hearing of
the case filed by Clifford Ratwatte, the unsuccessful candidate for
the post of president of the BCCSL annual general meeting of March
28.
