Sri Lanka-innings

The 6th match of the tournament commenced at Thatta, a small town in the province of Sindh. Batting first Sri Lanka opened the innings with C. G. Perumpuli and Melantha de Silva but lost the 1st wicket at the score of 10 when Perumpuli was bowled by Yasir Butt for 3.

Ehsan Abeysinghe came in and tried to build the innings. Unfortunately Sri Lanka lost 2 more wickets at the total of 53. Ehsan was out after scoring a useful 34. A long partnership between Jahan Jayasuriya who was run out after scoring an exciting 50 and Jeevan Mehdis (27) that followed raised Sri Lanka's score to 155 for 6 in 30 overs.

D. Niroshan (14) J. Hewawasam (34) who took the crease later, however, played some exciting cricket to take Sri Lanka to a respectable total of 231 runs. Basit Butt took 3 wickets for 38.


Facing a gigantic target of 232 runs, Saudi Arabia opened the innings with Basit Butt and Waqas Mahmood but met with the disaster of a historical nature. Not being able to face the Sri Lanka's onslaught they lost 5 wicket for 28 runs in the first 10 overs. Paceman Wijesiriwarkdena struck like lightening tumbling down all the 5 wickets. His splendid haul included a hat-trick.

Sri Lanka appearing a tough opponent for Saudi Arabia, the match is likely to be one sided. None of the batsmen who followed could withstand the pressure exerted by Sri Lanka. Saudi Arabia was thus all out for 58 runs in 20.4 overs only. Basit Butt (13) was the only batsman to reach double figures. Wijesiriwarkdena who wrecked Saudi Arabia with a fantastic haul of 5 for 15 in only 4 overs was the hero of the match. Sri Lanka defeated Saudi Arabia by 174 runs.
