Rain ruins cricket
Rain prevented play in any of the Premier championship cricket matches scheduled to commence yesterday.
Weather permitting, the matches will commence today in the metropolis and the outstations.
OUSC 30-over cricket champs
The Open University Sports Club won the Sri Lanka State Services 30-over knockout cricket tournament title by beating University of Moratuwa by six wickets in the final. Moratuwa University scored 173/9 in their 30 overs and Open University reached the target in 27.5 overs losing only four wickets.
Open University has also qualified for the 45-overs k.o. finals which will be played against Police Department.
The Open University team which took part in these tournaments comprised:
K. A. D. Pushpakeerthi (Captain), Nalin Dassanayake (Vice-Capt.), S. C. Perera, G. C. Roshan Silva, K. Vipula, Madawa Edussuriya, Dinesh Kumarasiri, Anura Jayaweera, S. K. Fernando, B. S. Kelum, G. P. S. Hemasiri, Asitha Kodippili, Ranjith Ramanayake, R. C. Silva, Saman Priyantha, W. H. P. Sandaruwan and R. P. Mudalige.
Three sportsmen in Kandy District PA CPC

Three sportsmen were elected under the People's Alliance list to the Kandy District at this week's election to the Central Provincial Council.
Former Dharmaraja and BRC cricketer and the president of the Kandy District CA Thilina Tennakoon was placed second in the list. Tennakoon captained Dharmaraja College and played as a left-arm medium pacer and a consistent batsman. He was also chairman of the Kandy Four Gravets and Ganga Wata Korale Pradeshiya Sabha.
Anura Fernando who captained Dharmaraja College played as a left-arm opening bowler and also a good batsman. He was a member of the Patha Dumbara Pradeshiya Sabha.
Third to be elected was Kumar Beligalla, a motor racing driver who has participated in many speed hill climbs in the hill country.
