Swarnamali girls cricket champions in Kandy

SWARNAMALI Girls College, Kandy underlined their supremacy in the
local girls cricket scene when they became champions at the Kandy
Mayor's girls ten-overs-per-side cricket tournament organised by the
Playgrounds Department of Kandy Municipal Council. They beat
Hataraliyadde Balika Maha Vidyalaya by ten wickets in the final played
at the Kandy Municipal grounds, Kandy.
This tournament was organised by the head of the Kandy Municipal
Playgrounds Department and sports journalist Upananda Jayasundera and
assisted by Harold Ranasinghe, Edward Colombage, Kelum Shanthasiri and
other officials.
Massively built Manoka de Costa of Swarnamali BV was adjudged the Best
Batswoman and the Best Bowler's award went to Jayalakshmi Senaviratne
of Hataraliyadde BV and the Player of the Tournament to Swarnamali
skipper Maheshi Bandaranayake.
Mayor of Kandy Mr. Harindranath Dunuwille was the chief guest and he
distributed the awards along with MMCs Hafiz Marikkar, and Municipal
Commissioner Mr. S. Piyadasa.
This tournament is organised by the Kandy Municipal Council to
encourage cricket among the girls schools in the district and schools
little known from areas like Kundasale, Hataraliyadde, Gurudeniya,
Dodamwala, and Leula participated in this tournament.
Swarnamali beat Mahamaya by 33 runs. Swarnamali 55 for 4 in 10 overs
(Maheshi Bandaranayake 14, Manoka de Costa 27, T. Arambepola 2 for 7).
Mahamaya 22 all out in 9.1 overs (Jayani Saparamadu 11, Maheshi
Bandaranayake 4 for 5).
St. Anthony's BV, Kandy beat Kundasale MV by 3 wickets. Kundasale MV
61 for 8 wickets in 10 overs (D. Chamila 10, M. Mueena 12, S. Nirmala
10 not out, S. Somali 2 for 11, S. Roshani 2 for 10) St. Anthony's BV
62 for 7 in 10 overs (K. Herath 11, K. Senaviratne 17, S. Ganga 2 for
11).
Hataraliyadde MV beat Jinaraja College, Gampola by 25 runs.
Hataraliyadde BMV 72 for 6 in 10 overs (S. Shyama 14, F. S. Rasika 13,
M. Suji 18, S. Kanchana 3 for 18) Jinaraja College 47 for 9 in 10
overs (S. Kanchana 12, S. Shyama 2 for 8, S. Lakshimi 2 for 7, S.
Udumbara 2 for 6).
Gothami BV beat St. Anthony's BV by 10 wickets. St. Anthony's BV 39
for 2 in 10 overs (Kaushalya Herath 32 not out) Gothami BV 40 for no
loss in 10 overs (Nayana Dhanulla 25 not out).
Hataraliyadde BMV beat Gurudeniya MV by 18 runs. Hataraliyadde BMV 66
for 8 in 10 overs (S. Shyama 12, S. Herath 12, S. Sepalika 2 for 6, F.
S. Suchchithra 2 for 13) Gurudeniya MV 48 for 4 in 10 overs (S.

Semi Finals:
Swarnamali BV beat Wickremabahu MMV by ten wickets. Wickremabahu MMV

Gayani Abeyratne 3 for 9, S. Madushani 3 for 2) Swarnamali BV 33 for
no loss in 4.4 overs (Manoka de Costa 17 not out, Maheshi Bandaranayke

Hataraliyadde BMV beat Gothami BV by ten wickets. Gothami BV 40 for 7
in 10 overs (Shyama Kumari 2 for 6, Jayalakshmi Senaviratne 3 for 5)
Hataraliyadde BMV 43 for no loss in 4 overs (Lakshimi Gamlath 31 not
out, Shyama Kumari 11 not out).
