Tim May retires from international cricket
Former Australian Test off-spinner Tim May announced his retirement from cricket, citing personal reasons.
May has, in a career spanning 24 Tests, taken 75 wickets including a personal best of five for nine against the West Indies at Adelaide in 1993 - a game Australia lost by one run.
When Australia toured the Carribbean in 1995, however, May
remained 12th man for all four Tests, and thus missed having a
hand in the side`s 2-1 win over the Windies. May, now 34, was
last seen in action against England at Sydney in early 1995.
Interestingly, May has often been Shane Warne`s bowling
partner, tying up one end and permitting the ace leg spinner the
room to experiment, and wreck havoc, at the other. A statistical analysis some time ago did, in fact, find that Warne was
more successful bowling in tandem with May than with any other
bowler.
May, who has a highest score of 45 - again, against the Windies in the Adelaide Test - as his personal best, said, "I would
like to be remembered as the guy who got some runs and took some
wickets against the West Indies. I would also like to be remembered as the chap at the other end when Shane Warne was doing
all the damage."
