The Cable and Wireless cricket team romped to victory this weekend over the ALHCS Spartans at the Ronald Webster park in the second round of the 2000 CCB sponsored Anguilla Local League Tournament. The ALHCS Spartans, who debuted six under 15 players won the toss and elected to bat first and a pitch that looked batsmen friendly. Captain, Chaka Hodge top scored with a quick-fire 25 and Jel Carty provided support lower down the order with an entertaining 17. Anguillian pacer Michelle Morton bowled with aggression as he claimed 5 for 31 and off-spinner Paulivor Rogers spun his way to 4 for 14 as the school was dismissed for just 97.
In Reply, Cable and Wireless' innings transformed into the Adams' show. Brothers, Leeward Islands opener, Alex Adams (159) and Terry Adams (121 not out) both registered blistering centuries. Alex rode his luck but also played some blistering cover drives as his older brother Terry was brutal through mid-wicket. All the young school bowlers suffered, Chaka Hodge claimed 1 for 79, Travis Carter 1 for 103, Lynval Richardson 1 for 46 and Zachary Kenworthy 0 for 86 as Cable and Wireless declared at 339 for 3.
In an attempt to save the match, the school managed to accumulate a better score of 132. Chaka Hodge top scored, again with 36 and was helped by Lindel Richardson (29) and Zachary Kenworthy (16). Paulivor Rogers claimed 8 for 38 in the match as he returned with 4 for 24 in the second innings. The CCB Tournament resumes on the 8th of April with Cable and Wireless to take on the All Stars after Leicestershire County Cricket Club depart.
