WICBC CEO Steve Comacho announced in Port of Spain that WICBC was
considering preventing West Indian fast bowlers from playing on
the English county circuit. This move came as the result of injuries to leading West Indian bowlers such as Ian Bishop which are
said to be the cause of West Indies` poor showing in the last
year. The United Cricket Board of South Africa is also preparing
to institute a similar ban. The WICBC ban may extend to batsmen
as well as bowlers. Although, in Comacho`s views the players
would be better used to develop cricket in the Caribbean, Capt
Peter Short of the WICBC could not see any professional cricket
contracts that could pay for these cricketers` services.
