Australia v India

Wisden's review of the second match, Australia v India

15-Apr-2016
At Melbourne, January 18, 2015 (day/night). Australia won by four wickets. Australia 4pts. Toss: India. One-day international debut: G. S. Sandhu.
Following a fractious Test series, Warner courted more controversy in front of a large Indian expat contingent with an outburst at Rohit Sharma, in which he repeatedly shouted at him to "speak English!" Warner felt Sharma had pinched a single in the 23rd over after a shy at the stumps cannoned off his pads; in fact, the throw missed everything. Told to "stop looking for trouble" by Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland, and rested for the next game, Warner was also fined 50% of his fee; Bailey was suspended for a match for a second over-rate penalty in 12 months. Sharma's innings of 138 was as good as any by an Indian against the white ball in Australia. He and Raina put on 126 for the fourth wicket, before Starc's yorkers swept through the middle and lower order. He finished with six for 43, removing Greg Chappell's improbable record for the best figures in a home one-day international for Australia (five for 15 against India at Sydney in 1980-81). Gurinder Sandhu, born in Sydney's western suburbs to parents who had emigrated from the Punjab, had Rahane caught behind with his eighth ball in international cricket. Finch kept the reply under control with a measured 96, then Haddin and Faulkner hurried things to a conclusion.
Man of the Match: M. A. Starc. Attendance: 34,253.
