3rd ODI, Chittagong

Bangladesh v England, 2016-17

At Chittagong, October 12, 2016 (day/night). England won by four wickets. Toss: England.
Heavy rain during the build-up threatened to deny an engrossing series its fitting finale, but the clouds - and the stormy relationship between the sides - passed as England clinched a 2-1 win. No side had successfully chased more than 226 on this ground, but they were home with 13 balls to spare. Already without Alex Hales, Eoin Morgan and the rested Joe Root, England had lost Jason Roy to a quad complaint on the morning of the game. Billings seized his chance at the top of the order, putting on 63 with Vince - whom he would have replaced had Roy been fit - then 64 with Duckett, who made his second sixty of the series. Having already swept Mashrafe bin Mortaza into the stands, Billings attempted a repeat, but top-edged to deep square leg. Bairstow and Duckett fell in quick succession to Shafiul Islam, then Ali followed Buttler to leave England 236 for six. But Stokes was playing maturely, and added a rapid unbroken 42 with Woakes, who was dropped at slip by Imrul Kayes with 21 still needed, but completed the job with a straight six. Earlier, Bangladesh had raided 85 from their final 71 balls having teetered at 192 for six. Rashid took another career-best four-for (two with long hops, one with a full toss) and lifted his series haul to ten. The seamers, with the fit-again Plunkett replacing David Willey, had been largely impotent, until the introduction of Stokes, who persuaded Kayes to clip to midwicket. Buttler fortuitously stumped Shakib Al Hasan off Ali as the ball ricocheted off his gloves. And, for all the intelligence and dynamism of Mushfiqur Rahim and Mosaddek Hossain, Bangladesh did not have quite enough to extend their string of home one-day series wins to seven.
Man of the Match: A. U. Rashid. Man of the Series: B. A. Stokes.
