The Americans at cricket

At several of the above grounds the Americans supplemented their base ball exhibitions with cricket matches. Not one of the English teams pitted against the strangers embodied the strength of the club they represented-indeed, some of them were very weak teams-and the Americans having one or two good bowlers, several plucky hard-hitters, and a team of good fielders, they had the best of every match they played.
