At Sydney, December 18. Australia won by nine wickets. Border scored a faultless, unbeaten 105 (twelve 4s) off 118 balls as Australia overtook India"s total with 6.4 overs to spare. He was in such command that Greg Chappell, who joined him at 56 and made 52 not out, was able for once to build his innings at leisure. India, put in, should have done better than 180, for Gavaskar and Viswanath at last made their presence felt. The innings, however, was crippled by Lillee on his return for a second spell. The Man of the Match award went to Border.
