World Series Cup

At Brisbane, December 21. New Zealand won by three wickets. A thrilling finish, with New Zealand winning with eight deliveries to spare after Coney and Cairns had plundered 39 off 31 balls, was a fitting end to a match of fluctuating fortunes. India paid dearly for missed chances, the most crucial of which was Doshi"s failure to catch Coney at long-on when he was 10. It was ironic that Doshi"s lapse should be so decisive, because it was his bowling that had given India sight of victory. In India"s 204, Kapil Dev gave a thrilling exhibition of controlled aggression to score 75 off 51 balls, hitting three 6s and nine 4s, to win the Man of the Match award.
