World Series Cup

At Melbourne, January 11. Australia won by seven wickets. Although Australia, chasing 193, lost Greg Chappell and Hughes in quick succession, Wood and Walters both remained unbeaten to see them home. However, the Australians would have been in more trouble had India not fielded poorly. Kirmani, hampered by a hamstring injury, missed two stumpings, one of which reprieved Walters before he had scored, and Wood, who was named Man of the Match, was twice dropped at mid-wicket, at 28 and 55. The balance between the sides was not altered by Gavaskar making a big score for the first time in the series.
