†AUSTRALIA v NEW ZEALAND 1980-81

This result went most of the way towards making sure of New Zealand's place in the one-day finals. After New Zealand had won the toss, a splendid innings by Wright assured them of a worthwhile total and won him the Man of the Match award. Howarth, Parker and Smith (who pulled Lillee over long-on for 6) also played well. After Border's early dismissal, Australia lost wickets at important stages, so that when Marsh joined Walters they were 123 for five, needing 98 from the last eighteen overs. These two added 78 and eventually 8 were needed from the last over, bowled by Snedden to Walters and Graf, who could manage only 2 and four singles in a most exciting finish.
