World Series Cup

At Melbourne, January 9. Pakistan won by 25 runs. Australia, having asked Pakistan to bat, must have been well satisfied to restrict them to 218, a total which owed much to a scintillating 84 in 110 minutes by Zaheer, who was dropped at mid-off off Thomson when he was 29. Laird, the culprit, added to his woes by his early run-out, the forerunner of a minor epidemic which felled later Australian batsmen. Border, hitting an unbeaten 75 off 83 balls in 106 minutes, showed what could be done, but he ran out of partners.

Man of the Match: Zaheer Abbas. Attendance: 18,039.
