NEW ZEALAND v SRI LANKA

At Derby, June 18. Sri Lanka won by three wickets. After their win over England, New Zealand came down with a bump and were always struggling against Sri Lanka, who eventually won their first victory of the tournament. At one time New Zealand, having been put in on a lively pitch, were 116 for nine before a last-wicket stand of 65 between Snedden and Chatfield restored a gleam of hope. Two good innings by Kuruppu and Dias all but extinguished that, but from 129 for two Sri Lanka's middle batting faltered nervously and it needed the stiffening influence of Dias to see them home after five wickets had fallen for 32 runs.

Man of the Match: A. L. F. De Mel.
