†SRI LANKA v AUSTRALIA 1982-83

At Saravanamuttu Stadium, Colombo, April 13. Sri Lanka won by two wickets. Batting first after winning the toss, Australia soon lost Smith, but Wood and Yallop added 72 in seventeen overs before Wood was bowled, offering no stroke. Chappell was brilliantly caught wide on the leg side, one of five catches by wicket-keeper De Alwis, during a middle-order collapse when four wickets fell for 15 runs. Wettimuny and Fernando opened confidently, but then Chappell, Lillee and Hogan (who turned the ball considerably) slowed the run-rate. When Smith, running 30 yards from third man, brilliantly caught Madugalle, 57 were still needed in 10.3 overs. However, an aggressive De Mel, supported by De Silva, brought victory with five balls to spare.

Man of the Match: R. G. De Alwis.
