†SRI LANKA v WEST INDIES 1984-85

At Hobart, January 10. West Indies won by eight wickets. Sri Lanka never had a chance after they had lost the toss and been put in on a lively pitch. Garner was particularly awkward in his opening spell, but Mendis's swashbuckling 56, which included 29 off nine balls from Richards, and an unbroken stand of 52 from eleven overs between Karnain and Ratnayeke, represented a spirited recovery. West Indies, however, were never in any danger and won with 9.2 overs to spare.

Man of the Match: L. R. D. Mendis. Attendance: 6,000 (estimated).
