†AUSTRALIA v INDIA 1985-86

At Melbourne, January 31 (day/night). India won by six wickets. Fine bowling by Kapil Dev, who took two of his four wickets in his last over, prevented Australia, who won the toss, from putting together a formidable after Marsh and Boon had begun with 146 from 32 overs and three balls. The out-of-form Srikkanth enjoyed some luck in making a brisk 27, but Australia's tight attack so controlled India's run-rate that they did not reach 100 until the 29th over. Two overs later, however, Gavaskar and Vengsarkar (88 balls) launched the offensive and Kapil Dev made certain of an Indian victory with 23 from nineteen balls.

Man of the Match: D. B. Vengsarkar. Attendance: 57,169.
