At Sharjah, October 13. West Indies won by five wickets. Toss: India. On a pitch slow enough to inhibit confident strokeplay, Richards played the key role. As India struggled to gain momentum, having been contained by the fine bowling of Walsh, the West Indies captain bowled Amarnath, ran out Vengsarkar off his own bowling, removed Azharuddin with a direct hit at the bowler's end from point, and had Shastri caught when he hit across the line. Coming in when West Indies were 31 for three, Richards hit a six and four fours in scoring 34 off 33 balls, 18 of his runs coming in Prabhakar's eighth over. Logie (65 balls) and Arthurton (118 balls), both playing sensibly, then took West Indies towards a comfortable victory.
Man of the Match: I. V. A. Richards.
