At Adelaide, December 2. Australia won by six wickets. Toss: New Zealand. Australia never allowed New Zealand to mount a challenge and won comfortably with three overs to spare. Alderman (8-1-16-1) gave nothing away and Rackemann was similarly effective in keeping the New Zealanders on a tight rein. A third-wicket partnership of 84 between Crowe and Rutherford, after Wright had been run out for the second match in succession against Australia, gave their innings some substance, and Latham, Petrie and Pringle made sure at the end that the bowlers would have something to defend. However, Marsh, Boon and Jones gave Australia a good start, and Border had the large crowd singing his praises as he took three consecutive boundaries off Morrison in his 62-ball 55.
Man of the Match: A. R. Border.
