INDIA v PAKISTAN

At Sharjah, April 7. Pakistan won by 97 runs. Toss: Pakistan. International debuts: Naeem Ashraf, Zafar Iqbal.

Leaving their troubled cricket politics behind, Pakistan - under yet another captain, Moin Khan - secured their biggest ever win over India (in terms of runs) in 41 one-day games. Moin set India on the path to defeat by catching both openers off Aqib Javed, who added two more wickets as India struggled to 37 and finished with five for 19. Sidhu and Manjrekar rallied the innings, both reaching 50, but Manjrekar's dismissal started a terminal collapse of five wickets for 25. Pakistan had looked shaky in mid-innings, too, but Inzamam-ul-Haq and Wasim Akram, who hit 50 from 46 balls, turned them round and 91 came from their last ten overs.

Man of the Match: Aqib Javed.
