New Zealand v Sri Lanka

At Dhaka, October 26 (day/night). Sri Lanka won by five wickets. Toss: Sri Lanka.

On another very hot day, Sri Lanka won easily despite a disastrous start to their innings. Jayasuriya was out first ball, and they were five for three in the fourth over. New Zealand's poor total, 188, began to look quite formidable. But Ranatunga took charge, batting almost two hours and milking the ones and twos in his customary fashion. With help from Kaluwitharana in a stand of 127, he soon put the result beyond doubt. There was a ten-minute hold-up during the Sri Lankan innings when the floodlights lost power.

Man of the Match: A. Ranatunga.
