India v New Zealand 1964-65

India won by seven wickets, thanks to the off-spin bowling of Venkataraghavan who exploited a parched pitch and took twelve wickets for 152 runs. The surface soon began to wear and New Zealand, batting first, at once realised that they had made an error in leaving out Yuile, their left-arm spinner. The conditions were not nearly so encouraging to the pace bowlers and the Indian batwmen were able to make their forcing strokes freely.

With Sardesai following up his double century of the previous match with another fine hundred, the Nawab getting a grand hundred, and Hanumant Singh and Borde also prospering India declared with a lead of 203. New Zealand battled hard to save the match, but they lost four men for 68 before Sutcliffe helped Jarvis to stem the tide. Later Collinge and Cameron played well, but India needed only 70 to win.
